Tour guides meet the veterans at DCA when the veterans arrive. Tour guides spend the full day with the veterans and return with them back to the airport at the end of the day. Tour guides sit at the front of the bus and are provided a microphone, explaining different monuments, buildings and interesting facts about DC. When the veterans stop at the different monuments, tour guides should get off the bus with them and explain points of interest at the Memorials they are visiting.
We do have info sheets on the monuments for your convenience, and lots of info can also be found online about the Memorials.
For the 2021 Honor Flight season, the DCA Ground Crew will provide a list of tour guides, who already have been through orientation and who also indicate that they still want to serve as tour guides, to the hubs so the hubs can contact volunteers directly to serve as tour guides. The DCA Ground Crew will not be holding orientations, coordinating, or scheduling local tour guides or serving as the liaison between hubs requesting tour guides and our volunteer base. It will be the hub’s responsibility to certify your vaccination or testing status and you will have to adhere to all the hub’s policies and procedures, which could vary from hub to hub.
