DC-based Honor Flight Volunteer Tour Guides

Honor Flight Network provides volunteer Honor Flight tour guides available to meet you at all three airports or area hotel (or first stop on bus trips) and can provide detailed information about the Memorials and other sites along your route.  Here what hubs are saying about the Honor Flight Tour Guides:

  • “They really enhanced our trip and experience by providing in-depth information, history and significance to the Memorials visited.”
  • “Great demeanor, knowledgeable, very good delivery, knew his details and for items he could not address immediately, he researched and answered the questions.”
  • “Our tour guide seems to really enjoy her job and was very respectful and complimentary of the Veterans.  She was informative, personable, friendly and flexible when needed.”
  • “Not only was our tour guide a wealth of knowledge, she delivered it well and added humor, etc., to keep it interesting and lively.  She also helped us with some of the bus functions – truly above and beyond.”
  • “Not only was our tour guide knowledgeable, but her experience with Honor Flights was a lifesaver on our first flight since COVID without police escorts and unexpected delays.”

Our tour guides undergo training and new tour guides are required to shadow hubs before being activated.  Many of our tour guides are volunteer docents with other organizations, professional tour guides, are Veterans themselves, or just have a passion for serving our Veterans.  Our tour guides work closely under the direction of the hub leader and/or bus captain.  Tipping is not allowed, but adding them to the meal count would be appreciated.

Please consider adding a volunteer tour guide to your trip.  There are currently two ways to request tour guides:  1) if you have used tour guides in the past, and have a continued relationships with a tour guide, you can work with them directly as you have done in the past, or 2) send a request to honorflight.tourguides@gmail.com to request a tour guide for each bus.  In your email request, you can request particular tour guides, or allow the Tour Guide Coordinator to select them for you.  Coming soon – a master scheduling system on the portal for requesting tour guides.  More details when available.

We are also looking for hubs that would allow tour guide shadows on a trip.  These shadows can serve as floaters and assist with duties like stairs, passing out meals, trash collection, etc.  They would not be participating in any of the tour guiding.  Please email honorflight.tourguides@gmail.com if you would consider a shadow tour guide on an upcoming trip.

If you have any additional questions about the tour guide program, please email honorflight.tourguides@gmail.com
