Greenlight a Vet

CHANGE ONE LIGHT TO GREEN

Change one light to green in a visible location – on your porch, in your home, or at your office – and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our Veterans. Then, share your support by taking a picture of your green light and posting it using the hashtag #GreenLightAVet. Learn more about the movement here.

WHAT IS GREENLIGHT A VET?
America’s Veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a campaign designed to establish visible national support for our Veterans by changing one light to green.
THE MEANING OF GREEN
Green is the color of hope, renewal, and well-being. “Greenlight” is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of Veterans, and “greenlight” them forward as valued members of our communities.

Pearl Harbor Day

“We must be the great arsenal of democracy. For us this is an emergency as serious as war itself. We must apply ourselves to our task with the same resolution, the same sense of urgency, the same spirit of patriotism and sacrifice as we would show were we at war.” – FDR

As you spend your day in complete freedom, please remember our WWII vets who enlisted to serve our nation before and after the attack on Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941.

Wreaths Across America

The annual Wreaths Across America event will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, December 12, 2015.

The gates will open at 8 am. We will gather inside the visitor’s center and leave around 8:30 for the opening ceremony and orientation session. Please wear your yellow shirt if possible so we can recognize you! We will then move to designated areas of the cemetery to participate in the laying of wreaths at headstones. If you aren’t with our group, do not worry – laying the wreaths is more important than finding everyone. Please DRESS WARMLY (gloves help to not get poked by the wreaths) and use the Metro to visit the cemetery – no general parking will be permitted in the Welcome Center Garage. ALL are welcome so bring your friends.

Schedule of Events

8:00 a.m. — Arlington National Cemetery gates open to public

8:30 a.m. — Ceremonial Wreaths Across America Truck Parade arrives at Arlington’s Main entrance

Beautiful New Song

Happy Tuesday, volunteers! Wanted to keep you interested this off-season and share some beautiful new music that came our way. Texas ’55 Band has just released a new song, Daddy Never Talked About the War. The lyrics speak to the experiences many of our Honor Flight veterans have had, and the impact an Honor Flight trip could have on them.

For more information, check them out here.
